I am giving a lot of consideration to the Samsung Galaxy S10 to be my next daily driver. The requirements for my next smartphone are small, it needs to have an amazing camera, great design and be ergonomic.
For the past 3 years, I have looked to Apple to fulfil these requirements. But the iPhone XS just didn’t provide enough improvement over its predecessors for me to step up.
However over at Samsung, the Galaxy S10 will be a huge update for their flagship smartphone line. No incremental update here. And some of the design and tech being leaked could represent more of a (and I hesitate to say) revolutionary step forward rather than evolutionary.
The truly revolutionary step is actually reserved for the much fabled Galaxy X. A moniker which the Samsung Galaxy S10 seems to have, tellingly, not qualified for.
So let’s breakdown to all the info you need that has been leaked/released so far!
Samung Galaxy S10 Release Date
The launch/announcement date is currently slated to happen around 20th February 2019. Possibly before the Mobile World Congress 2019, which Samsung have traditionally used to unveil the Galaxy phones.
The release date, when you and I can get our mits on the phone, will subsequently happen about 8th March 2019.
Samung Galaxy S10 Display
At the Qualcomm Snapdragon summit, Samsung showed us 4 types of displays for now and the future: ‘Infinity U’, ‘Infinity V’, ‘Infinity O’ and ‘New Infinity’. The latter of which is the ultimate screen display Samsung are aspiring to for all their devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup will unfortunately not have the ‘New Infinity’ display, but the ‘Infinity O’ instead.
Instead of a notch, there will be a cut out or a hole punch design for the camera. Unfortunately Samsung haven’t yet developed the technology to put a camera under the glass, which is the ‘New Infinity’ screen display. Perhaps in the next iteration or that much fabled Samsung Galaxy X smartphone.
Fortunately eschewing the Infinity U and odd Infinity V display. The infinity O screen protector leaks for the Samsung A8 S smartphone have shown us what to expect for the Samsung Galaxy S10:

The Samsung Galaxy S10 + however will feature a dual lens front facing camera:

Samung Galaxy S10 Dimensions
According to @Evleaks on twitter, the dimensions for what we think the names for the line up will be are:
- S10 Lite – 5.8’ (128GB)
- S10 – 6.1’ (128-512GB)
- S10+ – 6.4’ (128GB-1TB)

Interestingly the Samsung Galaxy S10+ screen protector fits perfectly over the infamous Galaxy Note 7.
Which if you remember was recalled by Samsung after multiple reported battery failures; followed by a doomed replacement program, before Samsung finally gave up on the smartphone.
Samung Galaxy S10 Camera
Samsung usually come up with the goods when it comes to their cameras, and this year they will certainly have to, if they want to compete with the Huawei P20 Pro’s triple lens set up.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup is tipped to come equipped with a possible dual/triple or quadruple lens back camera setup. The possible setup is a triple lens combo consisting of:
- 12MP f1.5-2.4 variable aperture (similar to the S9 lens).
- 13MP Telephoto Lens.
- 16MP Super Wide Angle Lens f1.9 Aperture supporting a 123 degree FOV.
Conflicting reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite will come with a rear dual lens setup, whereas it’s more expensive siblings will support the triple lens setup. Although other reports suggest the Samsung Galaxy S10+ will be the only variant to support a rear triple lens setup.
The Samsung Galaxy S10+ will also reportedly be the only variant to support a front facing dual lens camera setup.
So… Let me start all over again… Now THIS IS (still) your very first and early look at the #Samsung #GalaxyS10 Plus! (updated official looking 5K renders + 360° video) on behalf of @91mobiles -> https://t.co/oED66jddR2 Cheers! ? pic.twitter.com/WSybUEuElf— Steve H.McFly (@OnLeaks) December 4, 2018
It seem for maximum camera capabilities the largest Galaxy S10 model is the one to go for. However it’s too big for my tastes.
Samung Galaxy S10 Specs
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will be powered by the Exynos 9820 and/or Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. How this matches up against Apple’s A12 Bionic 64bit chip or even the Huawei Kirin 980 remains to be seen.
Exynos 9820’s advanced image signal processor is reported to support up to five sensors, which should be more than enough for the Galaxy S10 range and future smartphones.
