The Fujifilm GFX 100S is an incredible hybrid camera that has made medium format more affordable. So to maximise the abilities, this article will go over the recording limits to determine which are the best memory cards for the Fujifilm GFX 100S.
If you don’t have the time to read the full article I can recommend some generalist cards that Fujifilm have actually recommended in their online documentation:

But I would recommend coming back to read this article in full when time permits. A more in depth read will let you work out a more tailored recommendation that will ultimately help you save funds that could be better spent on other essential gear.
Table of Contents
Which Memory Cards Does the Fujifilm GFX 100S Use?
The GFX 100S has two memory card slots that both support SD cards up to UHS-II.
The GFX 100S also supports the slower regular SD Card up to 2GB, this are the UHS-I SD cards. For UHS-II SDHC SD cards the maximum capacity supported is up to 32GB, and for my recommended SD cards, UHS-II SDXC cards are supported up to 2TB.
However there are no 2TB SD cards available as of the publication of this article.
Best Memory Cards for the Fujifilm GFX 100S to Record 4K Video
Fujifilm recommend using an SD card with a class 10 write speed (10MB/s) or better when shooting HD movies. For recording movies in the highest bitrate of 400MB/s Fujifilm recommend SD cards with Video Speed Class 60 or higher
However I would recommend V90 SD cards which have the fastest write speeds available.
Recording movies in 400Mbps can be done with DCI4K/4K 29.97p/25p/24p/23.98p.
The GFX 100S records two movie file formats:
MOV: HEVC/H.265, Linear PCM (Stereo sound 24bit/ 48KHz sampling)
MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, Linear PCM (Stereo sound 24bit / 48KHz sampling)
MP4:
MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, AAC
Movie compression is All intra/ Long GOP. All intra can be used with the following settings:
DCI4K/4K 29.97p/25p/24p/23.98p – 400Mbps
Full HD(2048×1080) / Full HD(1920×1080) 59.94p/50p/29.97p/25p/24p/23.98p – 200Mbps

Fujifilm state that recording time can become short depending on the temperature and/or shooting conditions. So do bear in mind these numbers are approximations and your experience may vary.
The Other Best Memory Cards for the Fujifilm GFX 100S
While the Sony Tough series is one of my favourite brands of SD cards and have yet to fail me in so far, there are alternative brands which offer just as good cards.
Sandisk for example with their Pro series are cards that should last years and have never failed me in 10 years as a wedding photographer.
Below is a (automatically updated) list if the bestselling UHS-II cards on Amazon for consideration:
- For prosumers and professionals shooting with MIL and cinema cameras

See HD page on official SanDisk website. Video Speed Class 60 (V60), sustained video capture rate of 60MB/s, designates a performance option designed to support real-time video recording with UHS enabled host devices. See the SD Association’s official website for additional details.)

Finally
No one should get the wrong SD card, by shelling out more than required on too big a capacity SD card, or just as bad, getting a card too small for your requirements.
Too small cards will mean having to make workarounds for the bottlenecks you encounter, and too large SD cards mean extra funds spent that could be better spent on other essential gear.
Get the right SD card the first time.
Once you have decided on the best SD card for your needs you will then need an SD card reader to get your data off quickly and efficiently:
- Simultaneously read and write on two cards to save yourself the effort of constant unplugging and re-plugging.
- USB 3.0 enables data transfer rates of up to 5Gbps for faster Sync times, backward compatible with USB 2.0/ 1.1.
